Giants Compete Well At Conference Meets

Sunday, March 17 2013 - Indoor CSL Meet

After a dissappointing Deerfield Duel Meet, the Giants bounced back during conference week.  They competed with more intensity, passion, and guts which brought out many strong performances.

The action started with the Freshmen CSL North Indoor Invite on Tuesday, March 12th.  HP had to make several changes to the line-up due to illnesses, but those that competed were ready to go and stepped up to fill in the gaps.  Overall the freshmen finished in 4th place just 16 points behind Deerfield.  The top scoring events for the Giants were the 3200 Meter Run with the only champion on the day for HP, Joe Pinsky, winning with a time of 11:15.05 and Jason Fox, just joining the team after swimming, finishing in 6th at 12:14.0.   The other top event was the 400 Meter Dash.  Jon Hrach finished in 3rd at 58.6 while teammate Max Zavell was 4th at 1:00.4.

On Friday, March 15th the Varsity and Frosh-Soph had their Championships.    The Varsity came into the meet wanting to prove that they were better then what was shown at the DF Duel and they did just that.   They finished in a strong 2nd place just 18 points behind Niles North and 30.5 points ahead of Deerfield.   The Frosh-Soph was hit hard by illness and did not have their original line-up, but competed well and finished in 5th place.

At this meet the field events were again an area where the team needs to improve.  On Varsity, junior Shealtial Isreal cleared 6'0" in the High Jump and finished in 2nd place.  In the Triple Jump, junior Benjy Rogin did well placing 3rd with a leap of 38'8.25".

On the track it was once again senior Andrew Sledd that led the way.   Sledd and junior teammate Jare Ward finished 1-2 in the 50 Meter Dash (6.0, 6.1).   Sledd then came back to lead-off the 4X160 Meter Relay to a 2nd place finish (1:18.0) and win the 200 Meter Dash (23.7).  The only other champion for HP was Rogin who won the 55 Low Hurdles in 7.6.   He also finsihed 2nd in the 55 High Hurdles (8.1) and was the lead-off for the 2nd place 4X400 Meter Relay (3:45.0).
